Built Up Emotion

It seems like almost everyday when you hear a story about a prodigy that credits his work to build up emotion, whether it is dark anger that is fueled by hatred or by loving passion. But in most scenarios, this can be a bad thing. Some instances where this is a bad thing is when it comes to moral stances and money. Companies are victim to this when they want to make money by selling what information they collect on you to other parties that have other intentions, some of which are bad. This is the same thing that happens to Guitar when he rants to Milkman after he finally gets to say what he has been wanting to say for so long. Part of the problem here was that Milkman is not a willing listener that eventually causes Guitar to have his motives flawed. The relationship between Milkman and Guitar was bound to fail since the beginning of the book because they both had different outlooks on the world and Milkman only told all of his problems while Guitar had to look to other places to seek...

American Culture

In the US there are many splashes of cultures from all around the world. This means that there is not one culture of America but multiple. This is especially apparent in Troy as there is a huge Asian population and the culture is different. There is also a heavy studies oriented culture apparent as it produces some of the smartest people in Michigan as Troy high is highly regarded by many colleges. But, there are places that are not focused on studies and are driven by gangs and riddled with poverty, and these also contribute to the American culture. American culture is unified by all of the different cultures found in the US and identifies as one culture. The American culture can even change from different time periods as is apparent in Milkman’s case. In the time period of the book, Song of Solomon, Milkman had to face discrimination and the mindset of the older people on matters such as Emmett Till. People at the time of the event such as Freddie thought he was, “‘Acting big down ...

Images in Media

When you see a true atrocity unfold on the news, how do you react? You may be called to action, maybe feel motivated to do something about it or maybe even feel pressured to make a change. Or if you are like me, you will feel weird and confused on how you do not feel the same type of empathy as others. As a person who is up to date on the latest events since 8th grade, I have seen so many violent images and all the media's takes weather it be from the radical fan or the president speaking on an issue. I feel as if I have been desensitized about what is going on in the world. I know how I am supposed to feel and I also do what I am supposed to do but I do not feel what I am supposed to feel. I feel like this is a real issue because I remember the time I first heard of these tragedies and having emotion. I feel like letting children see violent images growing up will desensitize them to images and that we should be more mindful to the audience. With that being said I also believe tha...

Maus

There are many things that can push people to their breaking point and through out Maus Art has been pushed time and time again to his breaking point because of his own father. Art has been very short tempered around his father and a good scenario of this is on page 20 when in the series of panels, Art has been narrow minded because of his personal bias towards his father when is comes to him criticizing Art. Art takes this to heart and this is how the inter-generational trauma effects Art. As a result    Támara Hill suggests that "trauma can develop unhealthy relationships with their child." This is the case with Art and his father because it is apparent that they do not get along. This is the tone throughout Maus because the very second sentence in the book is "...we aren't that close"(1 Spiegelman). This sets up the tone page 20 in book two of Maus because Art has a hard time comprehending his father;s thinking when he tells Art to not was his wooden sticks t...
