It seems like almost everyday when you hear a story about a prodigy that credits his work to build up emotion, whether it is dark anger that is fueled by hatred or by loving passion. But in most scenarios, this can be a bad thing. Some instances where this is a bad thing is when it comes to moral stances and money. Companies are victim to this when they want to make money by selling what information they collect on you to other parties that have other intentions, some of which are bad. This is the same thing that happens to Guitar when he rants to Milkman after he finally gets to say what he has been wanting to say for so long. Part of the problem here was that Milkman is not a willing listener that eventually causes Guitar to have his motives flawed. The relationship between Milkman and Guitar was bound to fail since the beginning of the book because they both had different outlooks on the world and Milkman only told all of his problems while Guitar had to look to other places to seek guidance for his. Because of this, their ideas began to formulate differently. Guitar grew jealous of Milkman for the power he poses while not caring enough for the black community and eventually in a last resort effort to convey this, it came off of his built up anger and “love” for the black community. Once Milkman stands his ground on what Guitar does by saying, “Every time I ask you what you what you doing it for, you talk about love”(Morrison 223). This scenario highlights how Guitars built up anger and emotion towards whites negatively affects the black and white community which ultimately negatively affects society.

After reading this, I became more interested in Gatsby as throughout the reading, some of what Gatsby says and does is in contradiction to where he lives and what he does. After our discussion in class about him living in the West Egg, this can imply that Gatsby did not inherit his wealth from his family because the city that represents old money, East Egg, is the place that he should be tied to if that is the case. With the lie that he brought up, it can also be assumed that there are other lies that are in place to keep his character mysterious. Because of the reason the Gatsby wants to hide how he obtained his we...
